Andorra - Home of the Tourist

I'm happy to report that I have finally found the first country on my list that I can actually visit without being afraid for my life!

Andorra is located in western Europe between Spain and France and is the sixth smallest nation in Europe and has a permanent population of under 100,000 people. It does however have an ever evolving population as it has over 10 million tourists a year, which is the backbone of the country's economy.

Andorra offers several different attractions that have led to their extremely successful tourism industry. The first is that they have a bountiful amount of ski slopes seeing as its location is in the middle of the Pyrenees Mountain chain. Secondly, since they are not a member of the European Union, they have duty free shopping on a large amount of high end goods. Overall it is just a lovely, somewhat undeveloped nation that is a great place for people to come and relax without the stress of big city life.

Because of that its fitting that getting to Andorra is no easy feat. There is no airport or train station, and the nearest city Toulouse is at least a 2 hour drive away.

Perhaps the isolation and laid back atmosphere that comes with it, along with the fact that the unemployment rate is practically 0%, is part of the reason why Andorrans are ranked to have the 4th highest life expectancy in the world.

Andorrans personally believe the secret to their longevity is due to the fact that the mountainous landscape of their country and their love for natural foods has practically forced them to live a very healthy lifestyle from the time they are born til the day that they die.

A brief description of Andorran cuisine and recipe for their national dish, Trinxat, can be found on my HERE.

Overall, Andorra is a country that has almost been left back in time but still offers modern amenities which is why it is no wonder why people from all over Europe flock here every year on vacation.

It is definitely now on my to do list for countries to visit before I die and if you haven't been there yet, you should definitely consider it on your next trip to the area.
